The Justice Department has obtained a 76-count criminal indictment charging executives of the Georgia-based Peanut Corporation of America with conspiracy and other charges arising from shipments of tainted peanut butter. In 2009, salmonella-tainted peanuts were used in peanut butter and led to nine deaths and hundreds of illnesses. Charged in the criminal indictment are company owner Stewart Parnell, his brother, Michael Parnell, plant manager, Samuel Lightsey, and quality assurance manager Mary Wilkerson.
