Missed Breaks & Unpaid Wages Class Action Lawsuit Against Wal-Mart Settles

Another class action lawsuit for unpaid wages against Wal-Mart has been settled.  Wal-Mart employees in Iowa claimed that they were owed unpaid wages and overtime pay because:

  • Wal-Mart failed to pay them for off-the-clock work
  • Wal-Mart failed to pay them overtime
  • Wal-Mart altered employee time records
  • Wal-Mart prevented them from taking legally-mandated lunch and rest breaks.

The settlement covered 97,259 persons employed by Wal-Mart between June 5, 1999, and May 9, 2009, and totaled $11 million. Wal-Mart is settling a number of class action lawsuits for unpaid wages and overtime compensation as has been earlier reported: Meal Break Suit Against Wal-Mart Settled For $3 Million, Wage Class Actions Against Wal-Mart Settled.
