Pregnancy Discrimination Suit Against Police Department Settled

A pregnancy discrimination lawsuit by female police officers against the Detroit police department has been settled. As terms of the settlement, the police department will no longer

1. ask female applicants if they are or intend to become pregnant;

2. force female police officers to take unpaid leave if they become pregnant; and,

3. reassign pregnant police officers to light-duty positions if such are available and medically necessary due to the pregnancy.
