Several proposals are being batted around that will increase -- vastly increase -- the numbers of salaried workers that must be paid overtime. Currently, a salaried employee that meets a relevant exemption must receive a minimum salary of $455.00 per week, which comes out to $11.38 per 40 hour workweek. Because the threshold has stayed so low for the last 40 years only 11% of salaried workers are paid overtime today, where some 65% of salaried workers were paid overtime back in 1975. This is one spot where the hard work of the middle class does not produce the earnings it should.  The Washington Post has coverage.
