The North Carolina Supreme Court is going to decide the case presenting the issue of whether a hospital patient is able to challenge the reasonableness of his hospital bills under the state's consumer protection law. Robert Talford of Charlotte  objected when he got a bill for $14,419 bill after his three-day stay in addition to the $5,556 charged for his hospital room. Part of his complaint is why the hospital charges about 24 times as much as a local pharmacy would for a medication.
