Federal prosecutors continue their investigation arising from the 2010 explosion at the Upper Big Branch coal mine that killed 29 coal miners.  Prosecutors have charged David C. Hughart, the president of Green Valley Coal Company, a division of Massey Energy, with felony and misdemeanor criminal charges and he is expected to plead guilty.  The basis for the charges is that Hughart and others conspired to hide violations of federal mining safety laws. Interestingly, these charges did not stem directly from actions at Upper Big Branch but from other locations, an indication that the investigation is spreading. The New York Times reports further: Ex-Official Is Charged After Deaths At Coal Mine.
