For-Profit College Company Sued In Whistleblower Lawsuit

The Department of Justice has joined a whistleblower lawsuit against the Education Management Corporation which operates for-profit colleges in numerous states including the Art Institute, Argosy University, Brown Mackie College and South College. The suit, which was brought by a former employee of the company, under the False Claims Act alleges that the company defrauded the federal government by paying incentives to student recruiters, a practice that violates federal law.
