Unpaid Overtime Sought By Mail Carriers In Class Action Lawsuit

A class action lawsuit for unpaid overtime has been filed by mail carriers against the United States Postal Service (USPS) reports the Southeast Texas Record, "Mail Carriers File Class Action Against USPS Over Labor Violations."  The employees claim systemic violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act which requires that work over 8 hours a day and 40 hours per workweek be compensated at an overtime rate of one and half times the base rate. The mail carriers claim that they regularly had overtime disallowed, were compelled to work through lunch and other breaks and off the clock as part of USPS's deliberate management policies.
