Nursing Home Abuse Case Yields $7.75 Million Verdict

After noticing bruises on their family member, a 71 year old stroke victim, the family reported their concerns about possible abuse to the nursing home management.  After that went nowhere, the family installed a video camera in her room.  It recorded her being hit, having her hair pulled and jerked around, having her fingers bent back and other abuse.  A jury's verdict assessed $2.25 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
