Nursing Home Death Results in $29.1 Million Verdict

The death of a 79 year old woman at a nursing home has resulted in a $29.1 million verdict returned by a California jury.  Frances Tanner died in 2005 at a nursing home owned by Horizon West Healthcare, Inc. in Sacramento.  The verdict included $1.1 million in compensatory damages and $28 million in punitive damages, an assessment that included the jury's consideration of the company's profitability.
