Social Worker Files Whistleblower Lawsuit Over Retaliatory Firing

A social worker in the Rowan County office has filed a whistleblower lawsuit claiming that she was fired in retaliation for reporting that some social workers were endangering children by falsifying abuse reports and alerting some homes of inspections.

The social worker, Debbie Pigman, received "good" and "highly effective" job performance ratings until she reported wrongdoing. After that supervisors began combing through her file looking for something to nitpick her about and eventually fired her, she alleges. She filed her lawsuit under the Kentucky Whistleblower Protection Act, which makes it unlawful to retaliate against a whistleblowing state employee.

Pigman is represented by Covington attorney Shane Sidebottom.
