Wage Class Action Lawsuit Over Hiring of Illegal Aliens Settles for $18 Million

A class action lawsuit claiming that Mohawk Industries deflated wages by knowingly hiring undocumented aliens has settled for $18 million.  The workers claimed that Mohawk Industries deflated wage levels by about 5% by knowingly hiring illegal and undocumented aliens.  The class action lawsuit was brought under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) that allows for the tripling of damages.  The workers received a major boost in 2008 when a federal appeals court certified the suit as a class action.
