A: Under Kentucky workers compensation law an injured worker's impairment rating is the main factor in determining the amount and duration of Kentucky workers compensation benefits that will be paid. An "impairment rating" is essentially a medical formula that determines the percentage of impairment to your whole body caused by the work injury using the criteria set out in the "Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment" published by the American Medical Association.
