The U.S. Department of Justice charges discrimination against Hispanic employees in a lawsuit filed against Lee County, Florida. The suit claims that three Hispanic employees, Marco Ferreira, Eduardo Rivera and Leonides Sepulveda, were subjected to racial and ethnic slurs and other misconduct that created and perpetuated a hostile work environment. The three men followed county procedures in reporting the wrongful conduct; however, the county failed to take meaningful corrective action. The county did at one time fire 9 persons identified in its own investigation as responsible for the hostile work environment but later hired 8 of them back.
