Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away today at a resort in West Texas near the town of Marfa.  He was 79 and was the Court's longest-serving Justice.

While I have many criticisms of Justice Scalia's rulings and opinions while on the Supreme Court, my own personal experience found him to be a very interesting and engaged conversationalist.  Long ago, back in 1986 before President Reagan appointed him to the Supreme Court and while he was still on the D.C. Circuit, Justice Scalia visited Tulane Law School.  As it worked out, I wound up serving as the crew on a sailing trip out of the New Orleans marina that was part of his reward for visiting I suppose.  He had never been to Kentucky, thought it was basically Appalachia and the Kentucky Derby.  There is no way you could not say he was a good man.  My condolences go out to his family.
