A group of five construction workers, steamfitters and plumbers who developed cancer because they were exposed to asbestos in their work were awarded a $190 million judgment by New York city jury. The jury found that the two defendants, Burnham and Cleaver-Brooks, showed reckless disregard for human life by their actions. The construction workers developed mesothelioma, a cancer of the lung associated with asbestos exposure; only two of the five survived to see the trial through.
