Employees of the federal Bureau of Prisons who were required to work without pay through the recent government shutdown have filed suit claiming that the delayed payment of their wages violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. The Fair Labor Standards Act requires employees be paid timely all wages and overtime they have earned. The government shutdown cut off payment of the BOP employees wages and overtime and violated the law. The federal workers will win this case. The violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act is clear and it is no excuse that the government was shutdown for political reasons (or whatever the reasons were). The price of stupid goes up even more.
