The breach of infection control protocol - a nurse's reuse of a saline syringe - has led to a lawsuit filed by former patients of Corning (N.Y.) Hospital.  The hospital, after learning of the breach, alerted the former patients and urged them to undergo testing for communicable diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.  The syringes, which were needleless, were used to flush IV tubing before and after medication was administered.
