A cable TV installer claiming that he was misclassified as an independent contractor a cable installer has sued for unpaid overtime compensation. Tom B. Kirk sued Integral Development Solutions, which had contracted with Time Warner Cable in Dallas, Texas and surrounding cities to provide cable TV installation work. Kirk claims that Integral intentionally misclassified him as an independent contractor to avoid paying him overtime required by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

This case involves a common violation and evasion of overtime laws: misclassifying an employee as an independent contractor and then claiming that the employee is exempt from overtime pay requirements.
