County jail employees in Tuscarawas County, Ohio have sued for unpaid overtime compensation claiming that they were not paid for attending mandatory pre-shift meetings that started 15 minutes before their clock in time. The employees also claim that they are required to perform work during what is suppoed to be a meal break.

This case presents two common issues in unpaid overtime cases: (1) requiring employees to work off the clock; and, (2) failing to provide a bona-fide meal break. The jail claims that the time at the pre-shift meeting is made up, because the employees are paid for their meal break. But if the employees perform work during the meal break, they are entitled to be paid for that time too.
