Enterprise Rent-A-Car's failure to respond to a vehicle recall and have one of its rental cars serviced resulted in the deaths of two young California women.  In September 2004, Daimler Chrysler issued a recall for 435,000 PT Cruisers for model years 2002 t0 2005, the problem being a leaky power steering hose that could cause a fire.  The following month, October 2004, Enterprise rented the car without responding to the recall notice or having it serviced to Raechel and Jacqueline Houck, who were subsequently killed in a fiery car accident.  After fighting the case for five years, Enterprise finally admitted that its negligence was the sole proximate cause of the two deaths.  The jury returned a verdict of $15 million to the estates of the two young women.
