Insistence on following accurate accounting practices led to his firing a former employee of Tyco Electronics claims in a recently filed whistleblower lawsuit. Jeffrey Wiest, a former employee in the company's accounting department, claims that he was fired on account of questions he raised about accounting for a $350,000 event at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas being accounted for as a business expense.

There appear to be at least two considerations coming into play for Mr. Wiest. One is whether by looking the other way he would be aiding and abetting tax fraud. The other is his professional ethics as an accountant. An employee in Kentucky cannot be required to violate a law in the course of his or her employment as a condition of keeping their job.
