A noose in a workplace is a powerful symbol of a racially hostile work environment. A federal court jury jury in St. Louis recently awarded $150,000 in damages to two employees of the St. Louis County Sheriff. Their claims stemmed from the Sheriff's failure to discipline three employees who hung a noose in the workplace. The jury will next consider punitive damages.
