A whistleblower who claimed that he was fired in retaliation for publicly criticizing OSHA for underreporting workplace injuries in the poultry industry will receive $820,000 in settlement of his wrongful termination lawsuit.  Bob Whitmore had worked for the U.S. Department of Labor for 37 years and was OSHA's top official for record-keeping. He was fired in 2009 after publicly criticizing OSHA for fudging the numbers on workplace injuries in the turkey and chicken poultry industry.  Whitmore filed a complaint against the agency under the Whistleblower Protection Act, a 1989 law designed to protect federal employees who report misconduct by their agencies.
