Completing reports, answering emails and completing other clerical and administrative duties outside and in addition to his regular shift hours is the basis for an overtime lawsuit by a former New Orleans police officer, Chad Perez. A federal judge ruled earlier this week that Perez had sufficiently pleaded facts showing that police department administration knew that it was evading overtime pay requirements. Perez will next seek to certify a class action of police officers affected by the unlawful overtime policy and collect the monies they all have earned.
