Police and other law enforcement officers in Chesterfield County, Virginia have filed suit under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act for overtime compensation.  The officers claim that they are entitled to overtime pay at a rate of 1 1/2 times their regular rate for the hours worked in what is known as "gap time," which are the hours between 160 in a 28 day period and the 171 hour threshold set by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
