As a result of Cassidy's whistleblowing to the newspaper, three things happened: the improper hiring was undone, the do-nothing workers were given additional duties and Cassidy was barred from having any discussions with emission program employees. He was fired a few months later for allegedly having a discussion with an emission program employee.
