Whistleblowers will receive $19 million of the $67.5 million recovered by the federal government from University of Phoenix parent, the Apollo Group.  The lawsuit claimed that the federal government was defrauded out of financial aid payments by pay practices to student recruiters that were allegedly based on the number of students enrolled, which is against federal law.

The federal False Claims Act allows suits by whistleblowers to recover monies that a company or corporation has defrauded from the federal government. The whistleblowers generally receive 15-25% of the monies recovered.
