Giant coal company Massey Energy has offered $35 million to settle a case claiming that it poisoned drinking water by coal slurry runoff.  Coal slurry is created by washing coal to make it burn better; the suit claims that the slurry was not properly contained and poisoned the claimants' drinking waters causing cancer, learning disabilities and other illnesses. The $35 million is in addition to $5 million previously offered.
