Characterizing the federal marijuana laws as "unjust and irrational" 18 Congressmen sent President Obama a letter today (on the 211th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birthday) calling for the federal decriminalization of marijuana and its delisting as a Schedule I narcotic. Read the letter here.

Our nation wastes -- just wastes -- billions of dollars each year on marijuana-related prosecutions, investigations and incarcerations. It is correct, in my opinion, that alcohol, a product legal in every state, is far, far, far more destructive and harmful on both an individual and general societal level. It won't happen overnight and maybe not even soon but our country should legalize marijuana. This letter is a step however small.
