The outbreak of fungal meningitis linked to tainted steroids has continued to spread: 8 deaths and 97 severe illnesses have been caused by it so far.  17,676 doses of the steriod drug, methylprednisolone acetate, were shipped by its maker, New England Compounding Center. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that up to 13,000 people have been exposed to the tainted medicine, which is used to treat upper back and neck pain.
