Two law professors were each awarded $2.5 million in punitive damages and $45,000 each in compensatory damages by a federal court jury in Philadelphia against West Publishing in a defamation suit.  David Rudovsky and Leonard Susnov put together a practice manual on Pennsylvania criminal law and procedure for nearly two decades before declining to continue.  West then put out a supposedly updated version of the book, using the author's names but including only three new cases as part of the update.  The law professors claimed they were defamed by a shoddy product being put out in their names and the jury agreed.
