A class action lawsuit has been filed against Papa John's Pizza over unsolicited text messages sent to consumers. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 makes it unlawful for a company to sent advertisements by text messages unless the consumer has already agreed that the messages can be sent.  The lawsuit claims that over 500,000 messages were sent and that some consumers received 15 or so in a row.

Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act each violation can yield $500 damages. The case has been certified as a class action by a federal district judge in Washington state.
