Over 100 confirmed cases of salmonella poisoning apparently linked to sandwiches obtained from Subway restaurants in central Illinois have been confirmed by the Illinois Department of Health.  The outbreak occurred between May 11 and June 5; Subway withdrew some vegetables as a precautionary response.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 76 million people in the United States get sick every year from foodborne illnesses and 5,000 people die from them.
