Sometimes it is just too much money, at least in the area of judicial campaign contributions, and it caused the Supreme Court to rule in Caperton v. Massey Energy that you just can't buy too much justice. The Court found it an "extraordinary situation" and advised that:
 

Just as no man is allowed to be a judge in his own cause, similar fears of bias can arise when-without the consent of the other parties-a man chooses the judge in his own cause.
