Retaliation against whistleblowers can take a nearly endless variety from outright firing to, well, having their office moved to the basement, as the Washington Post discusses, For Whistleblowers, A Bold Move Can Be Followed by One to the Basement.  

So what constitutes unlawful retaliation? The answer, according to the Supreme Court, is an action or actions that would dissuade or deter a reasonable person in the whistleblower's position from doing whatever it was that caused the retaliation.
