A federal court jury found PQ Corp. guilty of willful age discrimination and returned a verdict of $6.2 million for two scientists at a Chester County, Pennsylvania chemical manufacturing firm.  The jury verdict included back pay, front pay and compensatory damages for the two employees, Romany Wypart and Bonnie Marcus.

The case included testimony from a PQ manager that she was told the company wanted "young blood" to replace one of her employees, a remark that she interpreted as intent to violate age discrimination laws.  However, the judge refused to allow the jury to hear testimony that a key decision-maker for the corporation had said "we need to get rid of some of these old farts."

The victorious employees were represented by Scott Goldshaw and Katie Eyer.
