Disability insurance is usually the last type of insurance on a consumer's mind, probably for a couple of reasons: (1) many people have disability insurance by way of their employee benefits and figure that is good enough; and, (2) they don't think much about the chances of becoming disabled themselves. It is worth thinking about, however, because whatever policy you have through your job does not provide the scope of coverage that you probably need and everybody has a statistically higher chance of becoming disabled from working than they think they do.
