USERRA is a federal law that prohibits employment discrimination based on a person's present or impending military service commitments or their intention to serve.  Kentucky National Guardsman and Shelbyville police officer Bruce Gentry was turned down for a job with the Oldham County Police Department after he disclosed that he was a member of the Kentucky National Guard.  Last week, a federal court jury in Louisville found that Oldham County had willfully violated Gentry's rights under USERRA and awarded him $600,000 in damages.
