A sex discrimination lawsuit against retail giant Costco may go forward as a nation-wide class action a federal district judge in San Francisco has ruled. U.S. District Judge Edward Chen ruled that the women had shown that Costco "have provided significant proof that (the company) operates under a general policy of discrimination" and follows "a common direction emanating from Costco's upper management."
The suit claims that Costco discriminated based on sex with regard to promotions to general manager and assistant general manager at its 350 some warehouse-style stores.
Last year the Supreme Court threw out a nation-wide sex discrimination case against Wal-Mart because it ruled that the women had not shown a common corporate policy of discrimination, a curious if not impossible to understand ruling given that the proof was that it happened all over the country.
