The United States Supreme Court heard arguments Monday in a case that will decide who is a supervisor in an employment discrimination case. This issue is important because the liability of an employer for discrimination or a hostile work environment are different depending on whether the offending employee is a co-worker or a supervisor. The case was brought by Maetta Vance, an African-American cafeteria worker at Ball State University, who claimed that a supervisor had created a hostile work environment for her because of race.
