A newly-passed Tennessee law exempting insurance companies from the state's consumer protection law will encourage denial of claims because of the decreased penalties argues lawyer R. Sadler Bailey in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal: "New Law Weakens Consumer Protection." Bailey asserts that "changes in state law enacted this past week will encourage unfair practices by the insurance industry and deny their victims (both businesses and individuals) the most powerful instrument of our civil justice system."
