Age discrimination was the focus of a hearing before the EEOC on Wednesday, July 15.  Age discrimination charges with EEOC increased 30% from 2007 to 2008.  These numbers led Stuart Ishimaru, acting chairman of the EEOC, to wonder whether "the public generally realizes that age discrimination is illegal."  Numerous witnesses noted that a number of decisions by the United States Supreme Court have sharply curtailed age discrimination protections and called for Congressional action.
